Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus) is a classic, hardy aquarium plant beloved for its graceful, flowing fronds and easy-care nature. With long, dark green, lance-shaped leaves that have a slightly textured surface, it adds elegant movement and a natural look to any freshwater setup.

This versatile epiphyte thrives in low to moderate lighting and does not require CO2, making it perfect for low-tech tanks, beginner setups, and shrimp or community aquariums. Java Fern can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or left floating, where it provides excellent cover for shrimp, fry, and small fish while collecting biofilm for natural grazing.

Java Fern is slow to moderate growing and very forgiving, adapting well to a wide range of water conditions. Once established, it is long-lasting and adds beautiful vertical interest without demanding high maintenance.

Planting tip: Do not bury the rhizome. Attach the plant to rocks or driftwood using glue or thread to prevent rot.

With its durability and timeless appeal, Java Fern is a dependable choice that enhances aquascapes of all styles.

Grown & Ready to Thrive

Our plants are grown fully submerged in aquarium setups with no CO2, stable temperatures of 70–76°F, and 4–8 hours of light daily. This ensures they are already adapted to real aquarium conditions, making them easier to transition and grow in your tank.

Please note: plants may contain small snails or snail eggs, which are harmless and often beneficial, helping break down waste and support a healthy aquarium ecosystem.
